A New Idea For Scheduled Maintenance

If you were to ask any of the factory trained technicians in our service department what the most important thing you could do to keep your Honda running like new is, they would tell you that it is keeping up with regularly scheduled maintenance. Driving conditions in and around Denton, Frisco, and Lewisville, TX can be particularly harsh, especially during the heat of summer months. As long as you keep up with your vehicle’s maintenance, your Honda should last for many years.

To combat this problem and help drivers in the Denton take better care of their vehicles, Honda introduced the Honda Maintenance Minder system on several models in 2007. This system uses the onboard computer to calculate the most appropriate time for a variety of maintenance operations.

In the old days these maintenance periods were determined solely by a set number of miles in between intervals. While this was effective, it is not always the most accurate way to determine when certain services need to performed. Today the computer takes into account important factors such as driving conditions, which are far more important than simply calculating the mileage. For example when the ambient temperature is high, engine oil tends to break down more quickly, and as such needs to be changed more frequently.

Since the computer looks at overall driving conditions, it takes into account when there is more than one driver and averages out the recommendations. Since the system has this capability, it is able to advance or delay the timeline of all services so that you have a complete list of necessary services occurring at the same time, reducing the number of visits you need to make to our Denton service department. At the same time, the Honda Maintenance Minder ensures that your vehicle continues to receive the best possible care at all times.

Clear and Easy to Understand Reminders

When looking at the display, drivers will see the service percentage at 100%. As you drive this percentage will continue to diminish until it reaches 15%, at which point a wrench icon on the dash will light up. This is to let you know you need to schedule your vehicle in for service soon. At 5% your vehicle is due to be serviced immediately, by the time the display reaches 0% your vehicle is overdue for service. If you continue to drive, the numbers will begin to count into the negative figures indicating your vehicle continues to become further past due for scheduled maintenance.

While you can choose to ignore the Honda Maintenance Minder, to do so is putting your Honda vehicle at risk of damage and early wear. If you want your new or certified pre-owned vehicle to provide you with many years of flawless service, pay attention to the Maintenance Minder and learn what each of the individual Maintenance codes means.
